MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
New challange WITH SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
In the area of medical technology, engineering principles and rules are applied in the field of medicine. Medical-technology equipment includes, for example, biocompatible artificial limbs, medical therapy and diagnosis equipment, like electrocardiograms and ultrasonic apparatus or image-making diagnostics, calling like magnetic resonance therapy and electro-encephalography, to name just a few.
The relatively young discipline is characterized by a high level of research and development expenditure, e.g. in the areas of medical computer science, processing of physiological signals or biomechanics as well as intensive state regulation.
The EMC Competence Center is familiar with these special requirements of a test laboratory in the conduct of the relevant tests and can implement this in practice. Particularly, the increasing computerization and digital technology make medical-technology equipment become increasingly complex. The measurement tasks are correspondingly multifaceted. In the area of computer tomography, for example, today radiation arcs are used instead of conventional Hammerröhren. This is only possible, however, because high resolutions of a digital nature can be produced which are attributable to the influence of IT in the medical area. In comparison with analogous techniques, where faults occurring can be perceived visually or audibly, in digital technology additional measuring processes must be implemented in order to check trouble-free functioning.
The EMC Competence Center conducts accredited test procedures for: laboratory and medical equipment like OP and radiograph tables, patient transport, stimulation current equipment, lithotripters, HF surgery equipment, infusion pumps. Further examples from neighbouring areas are an industrial stirring equipment, centrifuges, sublimation printers, surface coating plants, water analytical instruments, chromatographs, and v. m.
